500g mince beef
1 cup fresh white breadcrumbs
1 egg yolk
1 small white onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tbsp tomato sauce
1 tsp dried oregano
salt and ground black pepper
4 slices tasty cheese (85g)
4 rindless bacon rashers, halved
to serve
4 hamburger rolls, split
2 tomatoes, sliced
1 mixed lettuce
½ cup Paul Newman’s Own South West Dressing
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 9 minutes
Serves: 4
1. Place all burger ingredients, except cheese and bacon, in a large bowl and use hands to combine; then form into four 2cm thick burgers.
2. Spray a barbecue hotplate or char-grill liberally with non-stick cooking spray and heat to medium-hot. Place burgers on preheated hotplate. After 5 minutes, turn the burgers and add bacon to hotplate. Cook for 2 minutes longer, then turn bacon and top each burger with a slice of cheese. Continue cooking burgers and bacon for another 2 minutes or until cooked to your liking.
3. Lightly toast rolls, then spread base of each roll with a little mayonnaise. Top with bacon, beef burgers, tomato and lettuce. Drizzle with dressing, then top with remaining roll halves.
